How She Move (A Movie Review)

This is one film that the idea of passion for the craft is clearly demonstrated.

The film is all about a straight-A high school student named Raya (played by Rutina Wesley)who was forced to leave their neighborhood in order to get a good college education and at the same time avoid the ill-fated death of her sister. Because of the said death, she was forced to come back to their neighborhood because her parents can no longer afford the cost of letting her continue her college education. As she went back to their place, she was discriminated because she seems to make the other people there look worthless and dull for not getting the same type of education she has. As she tried to look for ways of making her go back to her college via a scholarship aptitude test, she met her old friends and gave her a hard time to be accepted again. Feeling that she blew her chances in the exams conducted, she was forced to join a step-dance competition that her mother violently disagrees because it was also in that way where her sister met her unfortunate death (via associating with those kinds of people). However, since the prize was more than enough to get her back to college, she pursued her plan to get in to an all-male step dance crew. After so many twists and turns in the story, she has proven her worth by winning the competition to the right group and as well as getting a high score in her exams (which she thought she blew).

The film boasts of very good choreography and great music. But more than that, the film has shown that one does not need to completely turn back to his or her own passion just to get to another level in life. While there must be sacrifices that must be made, in the end what defines you will never be totally left behind.

This is just sad to note that it did not hit the screens here in our country (Philippines). But I'm sure, dance enthusiasts will really take time to see this film.
